August 2015 Show and Tell

Terri had her mixed media wall hanging to show.  This was exhibited at the latest Creative Fibres exhibition and won her a nice prize.

These next few photos are works from Bia, who has been busy.  Bia only hand quilts so these are all wonderfully textured.

Adorable!!

Diann made this lovely William Morris wallhanging.

And she is also donating these sweet little quilts to the neonatal unit.

This is our raffle quilt made by members for our January exhibition.  We've just received it back from being professionally quilted by Leonie Wihongi in Whangarei.

Here's the back.  Isn't it stunning?!

And a closeup of the quilting.  If you visit our January 2016 exhibition, you'll be able to buy a ticket for a chance to win this stunner.

Sue started this as a use-it-up recession quilt.  She has a superb sense of colour and has managed to pull them all together wonderfully.

Here is the back.  It's off to her son overseas.

Judith is holding this on behalf of Caroline who made it to donate to community quilts.

Our lovely Shirley and a couple of exquisitely finished wall hangings.

And Gayleen with some placemats.  I'm partial to ticking fabric, love it!

Charlotte did a short explanation and demo on Artist Trading Cards and then everyone had a go at making one.  We plan to trade them at a future club meeting.

Thanks for popping by!

April 2015 Show and Tell

Welcome to April show and tell.  First up we have a quilted (but not quite bound), quilt made from fabrics from Imogen (who passed away).  Her Friday stitching group put this quilt together and are going to present it to her husband.

This is Stephanie's quilt that she gifted to her sister in law.  Quilted by Leanne from Quilt Me Kiwi.

The club decided we wanted something more modern for our raffle quilt for the upcoming exhibition in January.  Here is the top put together by assorted generous club members - Stephanie especially.  Thanks Steph!

Ingrid's been making more napkin/serviette holders.

And here is Ingrid's quilt made from a panel.  It's long enough to cover her feet when she stretches out in her lazyboy, so she's keeping this one.

Vicki and Janet brought along fabrics that they dyed in Charlotte's low-water immersion dyeing class.  Yummy colours!

Vicki also showed off her turtle wall hanging started in a Susan Carlson class.  Vicki finished her edges with satin stitch, a departure from Susan's technique, but it worked beautifully.

Shirley showed off this colourful table runner.

And two small pieces that she started in Rosalie Dace's class.  Earth and Fire.

Anne shared her train quilt that she started at retreat.  Lots of fun!

Charlotte has been machine sketching and colouring in with coloured pencil.

Judith showed off a jelly roll race type quilt made with solid strips - all leftovers.  Shows what you can do with scraps.

We had planned to make a good start on the second prize raffle quilt.  Some people brought machines and sewed, some cut and some pressed.  Before you knew it, we had most of a twin size top ready to be stitched together.  Teamwork!

  See you next month!

Show and Tell - March 2015

Welcome to March's show and tell (only a little bit late....)

Donella showed off this quilt made to donate to the community - simple but effective.

She also showed us these two.  The smaller bassinet quilt is already on a cot at the local maternity unit and it was made with scraps from the larger one.  They are snuggly plaid flannel fabrics.

Carol is tall, so this is one long table runner!  Interesting curves and bright solids make it a bit different.

Diane made these two matching quilts with kiwiana fabrics.  Love the woven look.

Mathea was sending these two patriotic blocks off to her homeland, the US, to go into quilts of valour.

Ingrid has been hard at work making quilted napkin holders.  Useful for paper serviettes at the outdoor BBQ to stop them blowing away.

And here is why I always try and get a photo of the show and teller - I've forgotten who showed this rainbow bag!  Sorry!

Last but not least, Terri showed us this embellished journal cover.

It's already April so our next meeting is coming up fast - new members welcome.  Come along to Kingston House, Kerikeri on 28th April from 10am.

February 2015 Show and Tell

Welcome to the New Year.  February is our first official meeting, we hold our January meeting at a members house and it's more of a casual get together and catch up after the holidays.

There was the National Quilt Symposium in January, so we did have some show and tell from that.  Nita used her orange goodie bag as a pattern and then as the lining for this purple bag she made using techniques she learnt in Karen Eckmeier's class.

And here's her panel also made using the same techniques.

Shirley took a class from Kim Thittichai and put together her samples in this interesting composition backed with purple silk.

Shirley also showed us this little quilt, which is a piece of silk that she dyed, but didn't like.  She's intensely quilted it and then further coloured some of the flowers.

Ingrid showed us this embroidered table runner.

And this machine embroidered thread painting of a seal she did.

And then a bit of brightly coloured fun!

Judy has not been quilting long, but somehow has found the time to hand stitch this paper-pieced hexagon top - next challenge is to quilt it!

Gayleen's quilting group have been making quilts for kids in the community who have cancer.  Isn't this beautiful?

Terri's been making matching pillows for a quilt she completed last year.

And then a sewing machine cover.

And another pillow.

Judith's old quilting group sent her this book about an exhibition some of them were in.  There were some very interesting and beautiful quilts in it.

And I'm so sorry, but I've forgotten who's light pad cover this is!  Let me know and I'll add it in.  The light pad is one of those new slim LED ones - just great I reckon.

We were very proud to see that Mathea had an article published in Down Under Textiles magazine - an Australian publication.  Mathea also won viewer's choice at the Quilt Symposium, as well as first in her category and had a small quilt picked for the suitcase exhibition.

And then it was time for lunch and some stitching.  Here's Darryl working on a hexie quilt, they must be catching.

See you next month!
